Electric vehicles pose 'real risk' for autoworkers, with fewer parts â€” and jobs â€” required

One can hardly fault the electric vehicles. They have fewer moving parts, so there's less to build and less to break down. Many of the jobs needed to put internal-combustion vehicles on the road and keep them there, CRS says, will no longer be needed.
"Should electric powertrains displace those used by gasoline over the next decade and beyond, it is likely that both production and engineering jobs will be affected," Bill Canis, a vehicle-industry analyst, writes in the recent report to Congress.
Conventional powertrains may have as many as 2,000 moving parts, Canis notes, while electric powertrains may have as few 20.
"Electric-vehicle powertrains, if built domestically and not imported, would generate production employment, but fewer employees may be needed than at present because vehicle battery packs have relatively few components and are less complicated to assemble than internal combustion engine powertrains."...(CONTINUA NEL LINK)
La Volskwagen ha stimato che, una volta completata la transazione dal motore a scoppio, a quello full elettric, almeno due terzi degli operai attualmente impiegati nel settore saranno in esubero, perchĂ© non ci sarĂ piĂą bisogno del fornitore che produce i cambi, di quello che fa le punterie, di quello delle marmitte, etc, etc... Anche la produzione delle batterie, che sono il vero cuore di un veicolo elettrico, avviene in pochi immensi cappannoni, con ampio uso di robot (e pochissimi esseri umani).
